Cindy
AWESOME WORK!!! After going through a lot of trouble to organize a meeting at my home, I was horrified to discover that only three hours before everyone was supposed to meet up for dinner, my bathroom sink was stopped up and it seemed Draino just wasn't getting the job done. A-1 Plumbing came in and took care of the clog, cleaned up after themselves, and the issue was fixed with plenty of time to spare. They're my new go-to guys.

Important Questions and Answers
Should I Repair My Heater or Replace It?
You should discuss this question with an experienced plumber. These are questions you will need to consider.
- Is the warranty still good
- Do you have an electrical heater or a gas heater?
- Is the problem a leak from a valve or fitting?
- Is the problem a leak from the body?
What Are the Advantages of a Tankless Water Heater?
- Save space - The handy tankless water heater affixes to the wall and does away with bulky tanks.
- Save energy - You only heat up water when you need it. The savings on the energy bill can range from 8% - more than 50%
- You never run out of hot water - The tankless heater continually makes hot water on demand, so there is always a flow of hot water.
- Increased life for your heater Continual heating of water in tank heaters leads to mineral deposits on the side of the tank and corrosion. This won't occur in the tankless heaters.
What Is the Disadvantage of a Tankless Water Heater?
- When demand is larger than the capacity of the unit you are using, the tankless heater will produce a weaker stream of hot water
How Many Tankless Water Heaters Do I Need For My Home?
- Determine yourself, or with the plumber, the maximum number of gps(gallons per minute of hot water you will be using in the part of the house to be serviced by the Tankless Heater.
- Determine the input tap water temperature, during the coldest time of the year
- Determine the difference between 115 degrees ,(ideal domestic hot water temperature), and the temperature of your input tap water.
- Check the specifications of the unit you wish to purchase. Find out how many degrees it will raise the water even at maximum flow rate.
- If you find your unit will raise the water temperature to 115, even at maximal gsp use, in the winter, then the unit is adequate for the part of the house it wil be used for.
- To determine the full number of tankless heaters you need, just make this calculation for each part of the house to be serviced by a unit, until you are satisfied you have complete hot water coverage.
What is a Combi-Boiler and What Are its Advantages?
The combi-boler is an amazing appliance, which combines the function of a boiler and water heater into one machine The device provides circulating hot water to heat your home, and on demand will provide hot water for your domestic use.The advantages of the combi-bolier are:
- The combi-boiler saves space by combining the function of a boiler and heater in one unit
- The combi-bolier is energy efficient, and can save up to 40% on the heating energy bill.
- The combi-bolier runs on less energy and thus is energy efficient.
What Are the Disadvantages of a Combi-boiler
- Because the combi-boiler produces water on demand, the hot water stream is not as great
- Because of the limited hot water that can be produced on demand, the device is not appropriate for homes where more than one person will be taking a shower at a given time.
Perhaps for these reasons, the combi-boiler has not caught on in America as it has in Europe.
Maintaining Your Hot Water Heater
Checking Your Sacrificial Anode Rod
Your anode rod is metallic rod made of zinc, magnesium and aluminum, which is inserted through the top of your water heating tank. It drawls electrical current away from the walls and towards itself. You should check the anode rods in aging heater tanks at least once a year. If they are nearly used up then you should have them replaced. What should you look for?
- If you find rough chewed up metal up and down the rod, that's normal.
- If all you have is the steel core left, than you waited too long. Your tank may already be corroding on the inside, and you need to consider replacing the tank.
- If the rod looks normal that means it is passivating, and it may or may not be able to do the job it should be doing. Consult your plumber.
