AWESOME WORK!!! After going through a lot of trouble to organize a meeting at my home, I was horrified to discover that only three hours before everyone was supposed to meet up for dinner, my bathroom sink was stopped up and it seemed Draino just wasn't getting the job done. Backflow
Backflow occurs after water exits the drinking water system (potable water system) and is exposed to poisonous chemicals in the environment and is then subsequently sucked back into the domestic drinking water system through siphoning.
Examples
Places where backflow can occur in the house include the underground irrigation system, the indoor fire prevention sprinkler system, and the outdoor hose bib.
Preventing the Backflow
Backflow is prevented by devices called backflow prevention devices, which are installed in your flow system, and automatically block backflow, when they sense that the water is starting to move in the wrong direction.
Am I Legally Required to Have Backflow Prevention?
All new homes in Maryland are required to have backflow prevention devices and backflow inspection. Older homes are not yet required to have backflow prevention devices, but they should!
